"she has a pulse"

Kc Itohan has been working on "she has a pulse" during a one month residency with Amber Art. "she has a pulse" is a sound and visual exploration of vanity and violence as strategies for Black femme survival. Inspired by soundbites, reality television, vine, and other popular cultures, "she has a pulse" takes moments of vanity seriously to grapple with questions like: Do I fight because I'm pretty? How do Black femmes, girls, and women use vanity to stay alive? And if that quality keeps us alive, why does it make us insufferable? PROJECTIONS//SOUNDS: ~a performance dedicated to loud, abrasive, insufferable femmes; the deviant bitches of the world~ ENVIRONMENT: -standing room to encourage visceral responses with your body -CONTENT WARNING for misogynoir; audio & visuals dicussing or revisiting racist and gender violence **SUGGESTED DONATION: $5-$555** (no one turned away for lack of funds) any anti-blackness, femmephobia, or other oppressive behavior will not be tolerated at this event.
