Night of Music

WE HOPE YOU'RE READY for something special this month at Babycastles on 137 W 14th St. in Manhattan (off of the A, C, E, F, M, L, 1, 2, 3 trains + the N, Q, R aren’t far either!) Admission is $15-20. It's a little more this month to compensate for so many travelers! This is an all ages show! This event is NOT BYOB. Doors are at 7 pm, be on time! There is no open mic!! THIS MONTH’S LINEUP: ♪ MONODEER Monodeer is the alter ego of Dutch electronic musician Mark van den Heuvel, who combines his eternal love for 8-bit, hard hitting beats and basslines into inimitable live sets. Using two classic Nintendo Gameboys as instruments, he energetically explores, challenges and breaks through the pixelated boundaries of the micromusic scene. Call it chip-bass, microtrap, 8-bit whatever you like… Monodeer’s own brand of heavy, noisy, lo-fi mastery will get you moving to the sounds of deep chip-bass and melodic hooks. Minimal means. Maximum sound. ♪ BOACONSTRUCTOR Since 2012, Seattle-based producer boaconstructor has been making music on Nintendo Gameboys. Primarily fixated with pushing the handheld hardware to new limits, boa has crafted a sound that escapes the basic constraints of chip music that can appeal to crowds of modern, underground club music. From dubstep to footwork and electro to trap, he continues to produce forward-thinking 8-bit/16-bit beats that bridge the gap between electronic music of the past and today. His commitment to providing a truly cohesive underground club culture influenced lo-fi bass music experience is unparalleled in the industry, and should not be underestimated. ♪ ZEN ALBATROSS ZEN ALBATROSS summons massive black monoliths of low-fidelity dance floor anxiety. Screaming cassette decks provide air support for slow-building Game Boy drones as waves of percussive noise hit like Hellfire missiles — an imperfect anthem for our contemporary dystopia. ♪ TRI ANGLES Tri Angles can only be called a wanderer, moving place to place, floating on a cosmic tide. Currently based in Music City, he creates endlessly, bringing art of all kinds into the world. From lofi circuitry to cutting-edge digital synthesis and everything in between, Tri Angles is sure to bring a sound you won’t soon forget. ♪ PARALLELIS Exploring a variety of styles from lo-fi beats to frenetic dance pop, Parallelis is the constantly shifting musical alias of Jesse Rolfe. Amongst swirling arrangements of keyboards, vocals, gameboys, and ukulele, the only constant is a desire to connect and evolve. ☆ visuals by OHHAINAIFU ohhinaifu travels far and wide with pixel art, poopies, and cute things galore. Using the open source program, OpenTZT, she animates these images with brightly colored patterns and timed with her own little dance movements and hopes you can dance with her too. ☆ visuals by VAPORSTACK vaporstack is a visual artist who likes 1bit, high quality dithering and old technology. Professionaly he does vfx for broadcast and film, and at night he draws and messes with electronics that most people consider garbage. He’s been using pretty much the same computer since 1987.
