Babycastles ___ - In - Residence

Babycastles ＿＿＿-In-Residence is a residency dedicated to the creation of new works. Selected residents will be given a platform to work on and present their work, access to the Babycastles community and network, support, honoraria, and opportunities to teach and present their work in a public (online!) setting.
At Babycastles we're interested in play and understanding games with a broad approach to the field of playful media. We welcome artists, scholars, musicians, researchers, engineers, community-builders and practitioners of any definition to apply. You define your role and what you want to work on. Your application should identify an area of focus with a tangible goal, but this does not necessarily have to be game-related. For example, we see game creation as a medium synthesizing visual design, sound, sculpture, programming, scholarship, and performance.
We select five residents for a three month residency period from June 14th through September 17th. Residents are expected to participate in public events such as giving a talk, streaming a demo of their project, or leading a workshop. Residents will participate in Babycastles’ Discord community and monthly check-ins with other residents as they work on their projects. There will be an opportunity for consultations and planning with Babycastles volunteers. All residents will receive a $500 honorarium and present their work in a final online program.
While we’ve found success as an artist-run space dedicated to games, Babycastles mission is to amplify the voices of a broader community that is not always represented by the Game Industry. Our residency aims to serve a broad community of individuals of many intersectional identities across gender, race, class, age, ability.
Our Summer 2021 Babycastles ＿＿＿-In-Residence cohort is expected to be entirely online, but future iterations of the residency may be in-person at our space.

Submissions will be reviewed by a committee of Babycastles organizers and invited guests. Our Summer 2021 guest judges are Everest Pipkin and Sarah Brin.
